We launched the NF project in San Luis Rio Colorado, a border town in Sonora, Mexico in collaboration with Mision de Caridad, US based organization on May 10, 2024. Jean Sicurella is the founder of the organization. They have made a total of 97 loans to 48 women, from a total funding of $5,000 received from Our Biswas from May 2024 to June 2025. Some women have taken the interest free loan three times to expand their business and for emergencies. The project coordinator, Ange Garcia, says; “It has been a blessing for the women of the community. There is a great request for expansion.”
Nano finance through OUR BISWAS has made a significant difference in the lives of the women in our community. Many of the women have variable work hours that provide an unreliable source of income, so some have started small at-home businesses with the nano loans to supplement their family finances. Several women have used the loans to help with urgent challenges, like car repair or medical bills. The flexibility of the small installment repayments makes it possible for them to pay back the loans and helps them avoid debt with high interest rates. Access to nano finance brings them peace of mind in challenging circumstances. It gives the women opportunity in the face of poverty and empowers them to pursue goals of financial stability to provide for their future.
Success Stories
Gabriela Tejeda
Gabriela Tejeda is one of the women who actively participate in the community and are part of the staff at Misi6n de Caridad. She currently works in the kitchen area. although in the past she dedicated herself to crafting bags using the toquilla technique. In addition to her role within the organization. Gabriela has developed her entrepreneurial spirit by selling flour tortillas as an additional source of income for her household.
Although Gabriela is current, a member of the kitchen staff at Mision de Caridad. she has also developed an additional source of income that supports her household. As both a hobby and a small business. Gabriela produces homemade flour tortillas, which she sells within her local community, offering a high-quality product that is in steady demand. Her work has gone beyond individual sales: on several occasions. she has prepared large quantities of tortillas to help provide meals for the many children attending Institut° Esperanza, demonstrating her generosity and strong commitment to serving the community.
As the primary provider for her household, Gabriela has received financial support from Biswas, enabling her to invest in the purchase of raw materials—such as flour and oil—at wholesale prices. This assistance has allowed her to optimize production costs and increase her profit margins, ultimately strengthening her financial stability and contributing to her family’s well being
